System devices make the KNX bus work: a power supply with choke for each line, IP interfaces and routers for programming and backbone connections, line couplers, and USB interfaces for commissioning with ETS. They are the first items on any KNX device list.
Compare output current, number of tunnelling connections and mounting, then add the devices to the project planner.
Frequently asked questions
How do I size a KNX power supply?
A standard KNX line segment takes up to 64 devices. Choose the supply (for example 320 mA or 640 mA) from the total bus current of the devices on the line, which each product's specifications list.
What is the difference between an IP interface and an IP router?
An IP interface connects ETS or a visualisation to the bus over Ethernet. An IP router also couples KNX lines and areas over an IP backbone.
Do I need ETS to program KNX?
Yes. ETS is the manufacturer-independent tool from the KNX Association used to configure all KNX certified devices.
